What the Grand Reef Is

The Grand Reef is a large, immersive saltwater habitat within Discovery Cove designed for snorkeling and underwater exploration.

  • Size & Environment: The reef spans about 2.5 acres and holds nearly one million gallons of water—a substantial marine habitat created for guests to explore.
  • Immersive Experience: Guests can snorkel among tropical fish, stingrays, and even sharks (viewed safely through barriers) in an environment designed to mimic a real coral reef ecosystem.
  • Shallow-to-Deep Zones: The water depth varies, starting at zero-entry and moving into deeper sections (around 12–15 feet in areas), so you’re often floating or swimming depending on where you are.

Marine Life & Interaction

The Grand Reef is home to thousands of tropical fish representing many species, plus rays that guests can encounter while snorkeling. Sharks and other marine species inhabit parts of the reef, though viewing areas ensure guest safety.

  • Snorkel freely with marine animals
  • Observe fish and rays close up
